Traffic Clerk

Transportation & Traffic Coordination
● Coordinate inbound and outbound shipments by scheduling carrier appointments and
identify/prioritize freight based on customer while also communicating dock
availability.
● Release and check in drivers, verify load documentation, and ensure compliance with
dock and safety procedures.
● Maintain accurate shipment, trailer, and carrier data within transportation and
warehouse management systems.
● Monitor shipment status and proactively communicate delays, exceptions, or
changes to internal stakeholders.
Documentation & Data Management
● Prepare, review, and maintain transportation documentation including bills of lading,
delivery receipts, packing slips with ASN, and carrier paperwork.
● Enter, update, and validate shipment information to ensure accuracy and traceability.
● Research and resolve discrepancies related to deliveries, quantities, or
documentation in coordination with Receiving, Inventory Control, Quality, Buyers,
vendors and Transportation teams.
● Process initial claims if needed based on the criteria demonstrated in written
processes.
● Coordinate with carriers, buyers, and vendors in regards to damaged freight to
process accordingly. Evaluating the accountable source and routing to the proper
area with necessary documentation.
● Maintain organized records and ensure required backup documentation is completed
and retained.
● Ensuring freight gets from dock to stock with proper labels with accuracy to the
intended destination while being accessible per customer orders. Tracking this
process for any inefficiencies and documenting errors.
● Maintain a record for data entry based on items flagged for WIP (Work in Progress)
to establish percentage of items vs. labor to help minimize freight otherwise not
general stock upon receipt.
Carrier & Internal Communication
● Serve as a primary point of contact for carriers regarding scheduling, arrivals, and
shipment questions.
● Communicate effectively with warehouse, receiving, inventory, and purchasing teams
to align transportation activities with operational needs.
● Escalate service issues, delays, or recurring problems to supervision for resolution
while also communicating when necessary with carriers and/or vendors.

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Associate’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or related field preferred.

Minimum of 1–3 years of experience in a warehouse, distribution center, or transportation environment.

Experience with traffic coordination, shipping/receiving, or transportation administration preferred.

Technical Proficiency: Intermediate computer skills, including Google
-
Workspace (Gmail, Sheets, Docs) and experience using Transportation
-
Management Systems (TMS) and/or Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).

Communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with drivers, carriers, and internal teams both verbally and in writing.

Organizational Skills: Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and priorities.

Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify issues, research discrepancies, and support resolution in a fast-paced environment.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic math functions including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; interpret quantities and shipment data.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and apply judgment within established procedures.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and reach with arms and hands.
Standing for 8 hours and frequent walking required.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to airborne particles.
The noise level in the work environment is usually high, proper protective equipment is required.
