Senior Tax Analyst II - Denver, Colorado

The Senior Tax Analyst II is responsible for the preparation, filing, estimating, paying and reconciling all of the United States and Canadian tax returns, to ensure compliance with tax reporting requirements. This role will maintain the tax software system, document the compliance processes and provide support/training to other departments. Additional responsibilities of the position will be to perform data analysis and be pro-active in identifying potential tax issues and eliminating audit risk.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review of transaction tax returns (sales and use, gross receipts, property, franchise and some International tax filings (Mexico and Canada) and remittances for monthly, quarterly and annual filings.
  • Resolves issues encountered by staff and senior tax analyst during daily operations and determines appropriate solutions
  • Creates, maintains and trains staff and senior staff on audit quality work papers, reports and support documentation for returns, audits and projects
  • Researches and interprets relevant and changing tax laws and uses professional judgement in applying tax decisions
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of all transaction tax, income tax, property tax, and tax department specific general ledger accounts
  • Issues and approves customer tax credits/adjustments for exempt and resale customers
  • Preforms monthly analysis of state and local tax returns to determine tax liability using professional judgement
  • Validating and processing exemption certificates for all tax exempt entities, with the ability to understand and support the determination of proper taxability of products and services sold to customers (working knowledge of drop shipment, marketplace facilitator’s, freight forwarding and leasing companies) is a plus
  • Working with external and internal customers in a collaborate approach to establish and maintain good working relationships
  • Responding to tax jurisdictional notices and inquires timely, utilizing professional judgement
  • Preparation of periodic sales tax refund claims and assist with the processing and mailing of all estimated tax payment, extensions and income tax returns.
  • Contribute to special projects as necessary





  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required



  • 6+ years of recent sales/use tax and audit or equivalent public accounting experience


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • Excellent interpersonal communication aptitude with the ability to work well within a team setting as well as with internal and external customers
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Excel using pivot tables, advanced functions and compound functions
  • Working knowledge of Transfer Pricing, Mexico and Canada VAT, Customs and Border Taxes, Property Tax and/or Apportionment and Corporate Income Tax is a plus
  • Working knowledge of SAP is preferred
  • manufacturing industry preferred
  • Ability to review processes and identify improvements to develop best practices
  • Disciplined work ethic and the capability to handle multiple projects
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Integrity, humility, ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities and complete work timely
  • The ability to exercise considerable judgement as it relates to tax issues and legal notifications
  • Working knowledge of Avalara (Cert Capture and AvaTax) is a plus
