Environmental, Health & Safety Manager

 

purpose

Responsible for environmental regulatory compliance and safety and health activities for all of Kärcher North America; reviews, develops, implements, necessary procedures in accordance with regulatory requirements and manages programs to protect employee health and safety.  Oversees all safety data management, metrics, and projects with AK-US plants and functional departments.  Establishes and promotes the maintenance of a safe, accident free and healthy work environment by performing the following duties:

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Formulates and develops general safety policies and programs meant to mitigate organizational impact on the environment, to protect employees from health and safety risks found in the organization and in compliance with local, state and federal OSHA rules and regulations
  • Lead the definition and deployment of annual safety, health and applicable regulatory initiatives including
    • Creating an integrated safety manuals and handbooks
    • Safety policy and procedure management and deployment
    • Establish KPIs
  • Develops employee safety training programs, records and manuals on various topics including but not limited to forklift operation, proper lifting, sexual harassment, proper lifting, office safety and violence in the workplace
  • Establishes guidelines governing the collection and maintenance of employee training records, health/safety manuals or handbooks, incident/accident reports, material safety data sheets, and other safety documentation
  • Audits facilities or processes to identify weaknesses or safety risks and proactively develops and implements corrective actions
  • Ensures appropriate investigation of and response to accidents or injuries. Cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for use in hearings, law suits, and insurance investigations
  • Identifies improvement opportunities and provides technical and best-practice guidance to assist management in decisions related to health and safety in meeting the regulatory requirements to health and environment related problems
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local statues or regulations including OSHA
  • Primarily responsible to ensure timely submission of all environmental reports.  Provides technical guidance to management, labor organizations, government agencies, and civic groups regarding health related problems.  Requests expenditures necessary to meet the requirements of environmental compliance, health and safety.
  • Lead safety meetings, communicate and coach safety requirements and results
  • Oversees the administration of workers' compensation program, including working with the insurance carrier to cut down on lost employee time and cut back on unjust claims
  • EH&S Manager is responsible for providing information throughout the company, through established communication channels on programs, services, regulatory impact, and compliance requirements
  • Facility management: maintaining the buildings and grounds of an organization, overseeing the upkeep of equipment and supplies, determining and scheduling repairs or renovation projects, and coordinating safety inspections. In charge of a budget and must negotiate with outside vendors for supplies, repairs, and other measures
  • Maintains all safety files and records

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Filing, organizing, recording, compiling, documenting and/or/reporting of: data from source materials such as production and sales records, quality control and test records, time sheets, survey sheets, and questionnaires.
  • Operational compliance to DOT hazmat requirements
  • Maintain First Aid / CPR / AED certification
  • Assist with office ergonomics
  • Recommend equipment upgrades or changes in the facility to protect workers. 
  • Manage employee badge access process
  • Owner of file drill procedures and emergency evacuation plan
  • Develop severe weather planning policies
  • Manage surveillance cameras, alarm systems and all building access
  • Recommend tools and resources to protect employees and customers from Covid-19 and build awareness
  • Manage the safety of all cafeteria operations
  • Develop a plan to maintain business continuity and operations during a disaster - continuing production, key operations, etc.  Create a disaster recovery planning strategy that ensures the organization's ability to return to full functionality after a disaster occurs - restoring data, servers, files, operating systems, etc.
  • Maintain ISO 14001 requirements for environmental management systems (EMS) to minimize the company's negative impact on the environment through EMS controls and continuous improvement

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education/Certification

  • Degree in a technical or related field from an accredited college or university and health with a safety certification.

 

Experience

  • 6+ years' experience as an Environmental, Health & Safety Manager

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

  • Leadership and conflict resolution skills
  • Incident investigation skills
  • Oral and written communication skills, including technical documentation
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the field's policies, procedures, and practices, including but not limited to CFR and OSHA standards
  • Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office tools including Word and Excel

Base Salary

$105,000 - $109,000
 

Incentive Plan

Karcher Incentive Plan (KIP) - up to 15% of annual salary
