Engineering Project Manager - Aurora, Colorado



A Project Manager is responsible for the project management functions of NPD (New Product Development) Teams.  The position is expected to manage Project Budgets, Project Schedules, Project Scope, NPD Team Meeting, and NPD Management Reviews.  In addition, the position is expected to help manage smaller projects which arise in the department, where this can be of value. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Perform Project Management responsibilities on NPD projects as assigned, working with the team members to assure project success.  This management is to begin at the assigning of the New Product Development Team, and is to continue through the state of production on the last of the model variations, including the closing of the Project File and the documenting of all “Lessons Learned” activities
  • Assures the correct use of applicable New Product Development tools, including QFD type activities, FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis), DFMA (Design for Manufacturability), and testing
  • Balances the requirements of Marketing (Business view point), Engineering (Technical view point), and Industrial Design (Customer view point), resolving conflicts between these different views when required
  • Manages the project schedule, project cost, and project specifications; optimizing the production of the right product, at the right time, for the right price
  • Works closely with the team members representing the various disciplines on the New Product Development teams, conducts regular team meetings, and reports team progress to management on a regular basis
  • Provides project management assistance to other small projects as assigned


Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists with the evaluation of various department staff and resources as made possible through working with the staff and resources on the NPD teams
  • Assists with the evaluation and improvement of related department processes, leading to continuous improvement within the department
  • Monitors and improves department processes, and works with other managers to monitor and improve engineering processes across the organization


Supervision Received

GENERAL SUPERVISION: Employee plans work and manner of performance to meet defined work plans or objectives. Routine tasks are performed independently, but unusual or critical circumstances are subject to consultation with supervisor.

Works as a group leader alongside other employees.  Lead responsibilities include training and mentoring, assigning and coordinating tasks, and reviewing quality and quantity of work.




Bachelor of Science – Mechanical/Electric Engineering or equivalent combination of experience and education.  Additional course work in Project Management, management type courses, and problem solving techniques is preferred




Four or more years experience managing technical projects and complex activities. This experience should be gained in areas of engineering or technical operations and should include a minimum of two years as a Project Manager

Language Skills


  • English: Mother tongue or business level
  • Further languages: Spanish and German are advantages due our international communication environment



Mathematical Skills


  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations


Financial Skills


Ability to work and understand Financial basic concepts such as Revenue, Profit, Production Costs, Overheads, Material costs, Investments, Project Expenses, Return of Investment, Net Present Value, Payback Period, etc


Software Skills

Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Word (medium level as minimum).

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Must be able to lift 30 pounds occasionally.



  • Operates a computer.
  • Prototyping/testing in the engineering lab or prototype area
  • Works occasionally in the manufacturing area.
  • Occasional travel may be required (arround 10% of time)
  • Occasional attend work-related meetings outside of regular business hours
