Engineer II - Aurora, Colorado



This position requires full competence in all conventional engineering aspects of the subject matter related to assignments.  Requires new approaches to problems encountered.  Assignments involve planning and conducting work that requires judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.



Independently performs most assignments with instructions as to the general results expected.  Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects.

Plans, schedules, and conducts or coordinates detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or of a total project of limited scope.  Assignments involve conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features.  Uses CAD and other analytical tools to solve engineering problems.  Examples of possible specific duties follow:


  • Performs design functions with moderate scope on new products as assigned.
  • Generates design engineering documentation usually in the form of engineering drawings and reports.
  • Creates, checks, and submits complete part and assembly documentation packages.
  • Provides input for schedules and workloads related to areas of responsibility.
  • Supports model makers in construction of mock-ups and prototypes.
  • Collaborates with other departments such as industrial design and operations during product design.
  • Develops strong understanding of manufacturing processes for use in product design assignments.
  • Completes assigned Engineering Changes (ECs) with moderate scope in a timely manner.
  • Completes moderate scope redesign projects as assigned, with guidance from others.
  • Provides limited operational support to production lines as required.
  • Provides guidance to technicians assisting with assignments.
  • Works effectively with others and utilizes all available resources in solving project problems.
  • Operates within existing MRP and EC procedures to meet project objectives.
  • Performs testing and evaluation functions on assigned projects with moderate scope.
  • Carries out limited investigations related to research and development projects with guidance from others.
  • Assists in the development of typical test plans and carries out routine tests on assigned projects.
  • Recognizes technical, scheduling, and resource problems and initiates corrective actions.
  • Participates in project/status and department meetings.



Receives general supervision from the Supervisor of Sustaining Engineering.



No direct reports.





Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related science or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Minimum of five years of design experience using CAD (Pro/E Wildfire Preferred).

Solid understanding of standard dimensioning techniques including GD&T.
