Director of Qualiity - Aurora, CO 



Develops, deploys, and administers the quality system for US & MX based manufacturing facilities and 3 US based distribution centers.  Establishes and implements Quality strategies, philosophies and objectives across all business units and departments of the company including Operations, Sales, Engineering, New Product Development, Customer Care, Warranty, and Logistics.  The Quality organization serves two purposes, Operations Quality (Manufacturing) and Central Quality (Process & New Product Development).  The Director oversees and advances the goals of both of these areas.




Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of ISO9001/ISO9014 standards, black belt Six Sigma and Lean tool use, techniques and methods
  • Ability to define metrics for manufacturing quality such as Voice of Customer, Efficiency (First Pass Yield, Direct Run), Waste Reduction (scrap, process analysis, ergonomic/motion,
  • TCOQ (Total Cost of Quality) and Supplier Quality
  • Team-orientated leadership skills are essential—this role is integrated with multiple Business Units, internal and external customers, international peers in worldwide locations, and product end users
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience with New Product Development, including application of APQP, and understanding of innovation in current offerings based on customer demand and sales strategy
  • Direct experience in Supplier Quality, including establishing expectations/accountability, and improving suppliers with poor performance by visiting/auditing their facilities
  • Experience in direct communication with Professional, Commercial, Government, Industrial, and Retail Sales channels, related to customer complaints and suggestions on product improvements from end users
  • Perform as a mentor for the Quality workforce comprised of both hourly and salaried staff, and those of varying experience/education levels
  • Ability and willingness to coach teams of staff who are not under this roles direct reporting structure
  • Knowledge of industry research, project management, and development processes
  • Practical experience in use of, and training others in, TPS tools (DMAIC, 5whys, FMEA, Kaizen, PDCA cycle)
  • Effective use of Strategic Planning tools (SWOT analysis/establishing and deploying OKR’s/Hoshin Kanri)
  • New Product Development/APQP process development and execution/Quality Gate process design
  • Highly skilled communicator, from public speaking with large groups to one-on-one performance coaching



  • Supports plant QA’s with vision, leadership and management
  • Provides Quality Assurance metrics and reporting to show overall company performance
  • Assesses vendor/supplier quality programs, capabilities and performance using the AKW Supplier Management System
  • Provides necessary quality assurance support, strategies, and tools in all phases of new product development process and the start of the production
  • Developing and monitoring plant/department KPI’s/OKR’s and initiating appropriate action plans to improve performance outcomes
  • Owner of Voice of Customer program, including complaint intake and response, plus data collection, analysis, and reporting of actionable information used to improve manufacturing, suppliers, and distribution center Quality
  • Partner for all Sales, Business Units, and Product Managers--acting as the representative for the Customer, and giving actionable ideas for improvements to the company’s offerings



  • 10+ years in a Senior Quality Manager/Director role in a manufacturing environment required
  • Six Sigma Black or Green Belt required,  or 5+ years Lean Manufacturing work history required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred
  • Project Management/CPM certification preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication required, bilingual in Spanish is a plus

Base Salary
$100,000 - $150,000 Annualized, Depending on Experience

Incentive Plan
KIP 25%
