Metal Machine Operator

Metal Machine Operator 1


The Machine Operator will be able to perform various tasks to set up, operate, monitor, troubleshoot and perform preventive maintenance on assigned machines.  They will also be responsible for inspecting parts to specifications and making adjustments, or tool changes as necessary to maintain quality specifications.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sets up Production Machines, including, but not limited to, recalling program, unloading/loading tools, programming and validating the safety light curtains, processing first piece for inspection buy-off, and running production.
  • Possesses basic blueprint reading skills.
  • Operate/Monitor multiple pieces of equipment during operation and to ensure quality production and minimal unplanned downtime.
  • Monitors part conformity through self-inspection utilizing calipers and other tools and makes minor adjustments as needed to ensure acceptable products.
  • Ensures all prior operations are adequately completed.
  • Keeps all unused tooling in approved tooling racks and/or cabinets.
  • Prepares completed parts for transport to safely (and without damage) pass on to the next work station.
  • Keeps work area clean and organized.
    Other duties assigned
    High school diploma or general education diploma (GED).
    Minimum 1 year related experience.
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Has used hand routers, hand drills, band saw, hand grinder, air ratchets, impact wrench, and other hand tools to produce parts.
  • Possesses basic computer skills.
  • Retains information well.
  • Able to work in fast paced environment.
  • Possesses good hand-eye coordination.
  • Able to apply basic mathematical concepts to work being done.
  • Experience with Metal Processing Equipment (i.e Press brake, Drill Press, Band Saw, Laser, NC Punch, Mill/Lathe)

Language Skills

Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words in English and recognized similarities and difference between words and between series of number. Ability to print and speak simple sentences


Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.



While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and reach with arms and hands. Standing for 8 hours and frequent walking required. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.



While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually high, proper protective equipment is required.
